RC Parañaque South Changes Lives of GK Families August 24, 2008, Parañaque City
By Pres Ed Castillo, RC Parañaque South
The Rotary Club of Parañaque South (RCPS), DG Boyet Limon’s home club, turned over a donation of 16 completely built housing units to their beneficiaries in simple but meaningful ceremonies at the Gawad Kalinga (GK) Salas QE2 Village at Multinational, Parañaque City, last August 24, 2008. Led by Pres. Ed Castillo, members and officers of RCPS awarded the symbolic keys to the new proud homeowners who now have better chances of leading decent lives.

The donation is part of the 24 GK houses funded by Singa Ship Management Philippines, Inc. (SingaShip), one of the country’s leading maritime manning agencies and a POEA Hall of Fame Awardee. The RCPS’ hosted GK community was aptly named after the RMS Queen Elizabeth 2, the luxury cruise ship of Cunard Lines, a SingaShip premier client who employs hundreds of Filipino seafarers. SingaShip is represented by it’s president, Mr. Rene F. Aguirre, who is also the incumbent 3830 District Secretary and a past president of RCPS, and SingaShip's Executive Vice President, Ms. Norma L. David.

In partnership with the Las Piñas Dental Association, headed by Dr. Amry Chavez, RCPS also distributed free dental care items to the children of the GK families and conducted oral health care lectures, which is part of the club’s Dental Care Literacy program.
The GK Salas QE2 Village is a glaring example that, given the chance and proper guidance, Filipinos in a community can and will work together to ensure peaceful and healthy living. Visitors to this community will be greeted, not only by the usual “welcome” sign, but also by a prominent and permanently displayed “This is a DRUG/LIQUOR/SMOKE FREE Community” poster, which means what it says. Nobody in the village drinks liquor nor smokes, and anti illegal drug rules are strictly enforced by the villagers themselves.
Seeing its efforts making dreams real, specially for children beneficiaries, RCPS will not tire to donate more houses and provide developmental services at Gawad Kalinga communities.
