RCPMS Gets Thumbs Up from DG Boyet During Visit

The Rotary Club of Parañaque Metro South (RCPMS) was lauded by DG Boyet Limon for a job well done during the Governor’s Visit held last January 7, 2009 at Max’s Restaurant in Parañaque City.  In his speech, the governor expressed that he was overwhelmed by the activities and projects presented by the club.

RCPMS’ presentation highlighted its achievements in club organization, membership growth and various service projects, summarized as follows:

 

Organization and Membership Growth

The Club Leadership Plan (CLP) Structure for Rotary Year 2008-2009 is headed by President Pol Casale, Jr. with VP/President-Elect Art Cabrera.  Other officers include Auditor/President-Nominee Boy Abalos,  Secretary/Club Administrator Leo Rago, Treasurer Rodel de Leon, Asst. Treasurer/Charter President Benny Hilario, Sgt-at-Arms Boyet Santos and PRO Brenda del Rosario.  PE Art, PP Dante Hernandez, CP Benny Hilario, PP Jose Vale and Rtn. Bren are also the incumbent RCPMS directors.

For its year-to-date recruitment efforts, the club was able to sign-up 10 new members, which include Rotarians Elizalde Bercasio, Larry Bonsol, Brenda del Rosario, Rene dela Cruz, Jennie Magalang, Elena Ramos, Francis Reyes, Aida Santos, Danilo Santos and Rtn. Mila Rose Ven.
 

Service Projects

Under Child Mortality Reduction program, RCPMS, together with other Parañaque Clubs, adopted a total of 16 barangays in the city to provide their children with medical support, which was forged in a memorandum of agreement signed by DG Boyet and Parañaque Mayor Jun Bernabe last Dec. 1, 2008.  RCPMS, in partnership with the PAL Foundation, twice conducted free medical clinics for children of indigent families at Our Lady of Peace Parish Church and San Antonio Gym, Valley 1, and also participated the Joint District 3830 Medical and Feeding Mission in Bgy. San Dionisio.

For Environment Protection, the club is an active participant in the Save Parañaque River Project, which is also covered by another MOA between D3830 and the Parañaque LGU where RCPMS conducted an awareness campaign by installing signages at various strategic places around the city.    The club also conducted a creek rehabilitation in San Antonio Valley 3, conducted tree planting at Garcia Heights, and joined the Save Laguna Lake Project by adopting Brgy. Tuktukan in Taguig City for bamboo reforestation along the lake shoreline.

For Literacy Development, RCPMS is known as the Library Builder of D3830, and has an on-going construction of a library building at Sampaloc II Elementary School, which is expected to be finished towards the end of January or early February, 2009.  It will be the eighth library built by the club since the program started in 2000.   RCPMS also donated books to the Sampaloc II School, and tables and chairs to the Special Education (SPED) Class of Fourth Estate Elementary School.
 

For Community Service activities, the club conducted Pamaskong Handog 2008, visited the inmates at the Parañaque City Jail; donated relief goods to the fire victims of Valley 8 in Bgy. San Antonio, distributed linens, pillows and other sleeping amenities to Bahay Aruga, shouldered transportation fares of families who wished to go back to the province under it “Balik-Probinsiya” program, and donated wheelchairs to 2 beneficiaries under the “Gabayan ang Nangangailangan” program of D3830 program, in cooperation with RC Makati Bel-Air and One World Intstitute.

Under Vocational & Livelihood Promotions program, RCPMS held the “Pillowcases to Bags” project where pillowcases donated by PAL Foundation were converted into bags and distributed to its adopted communities.  The club is also one of the sponsors of the Mega Jobs Fair in TESDA, Taguig and the 2nd Pinoy Nurse Expo at SM Megamall.

Although RCPMS is still considered a small club, it has four sustaining Paul Harris Fellows, namely Past Presidents Dante, Joe, Fred Jacob and IPP Leo Rago for its contribution to The Rotary Foundation (TRF). The club also donated P24,000 for the TRF Matching Grant.

For International Service, RCPMS donated three wheelchairs under the “Tulong, Gabay at Alalay” program covered by TRF Matching Grant 64686 in partnership with RC Makati West, RC Foster City California, USA and Wheelchair Foundation Beneficiaries, and conducted a disaster relief operation in Bgy. San Antonio, Parañaque City together with the Rotary Club of Connecticut and three other Parañaque clubs.
           
Under Public Relations and Rotary Image, RCPMS ensures that Rotary is always promoted by posting streamers and banners at every project venue.  It has created the club website www.rcpms.multiply.com and has already published 18 issues of the weekly club newsletter Hiyas (Handang Ibahagi Yamang Angkin ng Samahan).  It has published 14 articles and photos in a community newspaper, uploaded the Rotary Donates Wheelchairs and RCPMS Helps Fire Victims videos in YouTube, and has other video presentations on projects.  The club has featured many articles at the district website www.3830rotary2008, participated in “The Rotarian Photo Contest 2008-2009” and distributed Tagalog Four-Way Test streamers to different public schools and daycare centers.  RCMS also distributed “I Love Rotary” shirts to the SPED Class students of Fourth Estate Elementary School and installed a Four-Way Test signage at San Antonio Valley 5 in Parañaque.  To create a distinct club identity, RCPMS has two sets of Rotary uniforms this year, the light blue checkered polo and the yellow t-shirt.

Under Leadership Development, four RCPMS members attended the Rotary Academy, two in Distas, 10 are registered for the upcoming DISCON, PE Art attended the RI Convention in Los Angeles, and the RCPMS Club Leadership Plan was implemented.

On Club Activities, Rotarians Matt Pituc and Francis Reyes delivered their respective classification talks and invited four guests speakers, namely, Mr. Danilo Mendiola who talked on fire prevention, Mr. Francis Balagtas on Gawad Kalinga, Mr. Antonio Peñaflor on Credit Investigation and Mr. John Joshua Santiago on Jaycees International.  To promote camaraderie, the Club’s Fellowship is held every last Wednesday of the month.
