The Rotary Club of Makati’s Family Health and Nutrition Committee, chaired by PP Freddie Borromeo, launched two supplemental feeding programs, one at Brgy. San Jose and the other at Brgy. Sapa Mayamot, both in Antipolo City, last October 4, 2008. Each program will benefit thirty undernourished children of pre-school ages.

The launching ceremonies included the signing of a memorandum of agreement by the project partners, the induction of the officers of the parents’ association, and the turnover of RCM- provided funds and powdered milk donated by corporate sponsor Mead Johnson. The children also received rubber slippers donated by Rtn. George Barcelon. The feeding program is jointly implemented with the Kabisig ng Kalahi, the Department of Social Welfare, Mead Johnson Pharmaceuticals and the Antipolo government.

The children enrolled in the program will be  provided one hot meal and a glass of milk every day for a period of 6 months.  The inexpensive but nutritious meals will be prepared according to guidelines set by a government dietician.  To ensure that the children will recover and sustain good health after the program, the mothers are required to undergo a training program on food preparation, budgeting, menu planning, nutrition and related concerns, such as family planning and responsible parenthood.

Per schedule, the children should “graduate” from the program in early April 2009.
