Fast Tracks Save Laguna Lake-Taguig Micro Watershed
August 19, 2008

The Rotary Club of Taguig West (RCTW), in its regular club assembly at the Elks Club in Corinthian Plaza, Makati City last August, 19, 2008, tackled the Save Laguna Lake-Taguig Micro Watershed (SLL-TMW) project as its main agenda.  The SSL-TMW project aims to plant bamboos along the shoreline of Laguna Lake within the Taguig boundaries to help prevent further  soil erosions, while providing livelihood to the covered Barangays who will be organized as RCCs.

Present at the meeting were SSL-TMW project partners from Taguig City Government headed by Councilors Gloria De Mesa and AP Bartolome, Laguna Lake Development Authority Chief Joey Cariño III and River & Lake Management Head, Mr. Espital.  Real Good Presidents of participating clubs were also present, plus the usual good attendance of RCTW officers and members.

As the designated coordinator of the SLL-TMW under the guidance of District RCC Chair, PP Harold Dacumos, RCTW suggested to distribute recycled (piggybank) cans at various commercial establishments to raise additional funds for the project.  Also, Pres Alice suggested to have a competition where RCCs with the best bamboo propagation performances will be awarded and recognized. The number of Barangay RCCs has now grown to 18 from the initial 13 established during the community linkage meeting at Taguig City Hall last August 2, 2008.

The contents of the project MOA were then discussed.  It was agreed that the RCCs will start their training on the first week of September 2008.  One important issue raised by Pres Alice is,  how can the project hold the RCCs to their sustained participation.  Thus, certain mechanics must be drawn up to help ensure that the RCCs are committed to the project.  The MOA was finalized for signing soon.
