RCLP East Holds Clean Water Project in Laguna

Access to clean water is one issue of critical importance.  So critical that Rotary International has a major program thrust on the provision of clean and safe drinking water to communities around the world who have limited access to such, specially for the benefit of the children.

As early as 7:00 AM on May 5, 2009, the ladies of the Rotary Club of Las Piñas East (RCLPE), clad in their dainty pink shirts, travelled to the province of Laguna to deliver water purifiers to the Victor O. De Guia, Jr. Memorial Elementary School and the Dambo Elementary School, both in the town of Pangil.

From the funds provided by RC Makati, RCLPE purchased Bionare Water filters and purifiers for installation at the schools in time for the start of School Year 2009-2010 in June.  A combined total of 1,000 elementary students will now have safe drinking water while studying.

The visiting Rotarians were greeted by a warm welcome by the schools' principals and teachers, treated them to a sumptuous lunch and given mangoes as take-home tokens.  The RCLPE team was also presented a letter of appreciation for the club's book donation several months ago.  They will be visiting again come July to provide support to the school laboratory needs, which the school officials eagerly look forward to.

Back to Las Piñas, RGP Yoly Yorro said “It was a tiring day but happy to have shared whatever little we can give to our fellowmen.”
