Preparing for the 2010 Montreal RI Convention
April 25, 2009, Montreal, Quebec, Canada
From the report of PP Rachel Ocampo, RC Makati Bel-Air

PP Rachel Ocampo, of the Rotary Club of Makati Bel-Air, was appointed by Rotary International President-Elect John Kenny as a member of the 2010 Montreal Convention Promotion Committee whose main aim is to promote next year's RI convention in Montreal, Quebec, Canada and encourage the attendance of Rotarians from around the world.

With the concurrence of RI President DK Lee, RIPE John Kenny called for the committee meeting at the convention site in Montreal. Of the 22 members invited from all RI regions around the world, 20 attended the meeting at the Hyatt Regency in Montreal last April 22 to 24, 2009 and met with the local host committee chaired by Linda Bradley.  The 2010 Montreal Convention Promotion Committee is chaired by Ken Morgan. They toured the Palais des congrès de Montréal and the Bell Centre (the site of the 1976 Olympic games) where the RI convention's opening and plenary sessions will be held.  The group also visited tourist spots around the city, which will be featured in their promotion.

RIPE John Kenny himself was present at the meeting and group tours.  Also in the meeting were RI Vice President Monty Audenart, 2010 Montreal Convention Committee Chair Robert Scott, Liaison Staff Moira Sullivan and Manager for Programs and Promotions, Daryl Taylor.

During the meeting, PP Rachel presented a video on the strategies of the D3830 "On to LA 2008" launching held in 2007.  She got herself familiarized with the promotable aspects of the Montreal convention site and the related logistical details.  Her assignment, which officially starts in July 2009, will cover the promotion of the Montreal convention within the entire Zone 7A (Philippines and Indonesia) to drum up attendance.

Montreal is a an offspring of the union of classic European charm and contemporary North American attitude.  It's cityscape boasts of a perfect fusion of both old and new architectures –Victorian brownstones, neo-gothic churches, museums, restaurants, bars, cafés, shopping areas and theaters.  The languages spoken are primarily French and English.

It is a beautiful site to explore during the next Rotary International convention.

Bienvenue à Montreal!
